This is a documentary directed by Michele Soavi ( THE CHURCH, DELLAMORTE DELLAMORE) about Dario Argento and his work. It is basically a greatest hits package with clips from all of his films up to and including PHENOMENA. There are also extensive behind the scenes sections showing Dario directing, composing and editing.

The little interview sections do not really reveal a lot that isn't already known but it is interesting to note that he was very nervous before departing to start work on Phenomena, stating his doubts about his ability to make the film. Some would say this was prophetic as it is deemed by many to be his worse to date.

Staying with Phenomena ( it is featured a lot no doubt because it was his latest project ) most of the behind the scenes segments are to do with it. We see the elaborate setup just to get the shot of the bee landing on Jennifer Connelly in the Mercedes, Donald Pleasance being murdered, the climax showing the fly wranglers at work and perhaps most interestingly, a segment which appears to show Jennifer levitating which did not make the final cut.

There are also brief clips showing Dario at the scoring sessions for Suspiria and Inferno and an explanation of how the famous luma crane shot in Tenebrae was achieved.

As an introduction to his films this documentary gives you a small insight into his work. The film clips are taken out of context which, although to the casual viewer may be fine, to any fan destroys the Argento experience. The films should be watched in their entirety to fully appreciate the stylised splendour that is Argento.
