the third mother
Alan Jones writes:

‘MAGIC IS ALL AROUND US’

I witnessed Italian Horror History being made on November 15, 2006. In a distinctively Dario rococo decorated apartment on the Corso Govone in the swankiest of Turin neighbourhoods, three generations of Argentos came together as one. Finally. There was Dario and Daria Nicolodi, joking and laughing, doting on their grand-daughter Anna-Lou as all three lovingly watched Asia act out one of the key scenes in THE THIRD MOTHER, the hugely anticipated sequel to SUSPIRIA and INFERNO. When Daria took her first, admittedly, hesitant steps on set, it was like royalty had arrived. The atmosphere was incredible and every single person in the crew was clearly conscious of what a momentous occasion was actually happening before our very eyes. After decades of arguments over the authorship of SUSPIRIA, the subsequent infighting, recriminations and relationship fall-outs, here were the key players in the saga together again at last. And with their world famous actress daughter, continuing the beloved horror mythology they created in the presence of grand-daughter Anna Lou, who looks a dead-ringer for Daria. I admit I was so overcome, I cried. And then laughed, because in context of this sequel being about the Mother of Tears, it seemed entirely appropriate. Director of photography Frederic Fasano (SCARLET DIVA, DO YOU LIKE HITCHCOCK?) noticed my emotional response and just said one word “Magic”. Which set me off even more because it made me think of Jessica Harper’s line in SUSPIRIA, “Magic is all around us”. It certainly was that night and everyone was touched by it. In all the years I’ve been ‘stalking’ Dario, I’ve had many memorable moments. None will ever equal this night.

alan jones on mot
Alan Jones writes:

"Hi Nick, Just to let you know, I'll be in Turin for MOTHER OF TEARS on November 12 for four days. I chose these dates because that's when scriptwriters Jace Anderson and Adam Gierasch will also be on set and they have some great stories about working with Dario. He calls them his 'slaves'! I will hopefully catch the first day of Daria Nicolodi's filming schedule too. Others in the cast include Argento favourites Udo Kier, and Coralina Cataldi-Tassoni. My mate Cristian Solimeno (FOOTBALLER'S WIVES) is also in the cast playing one of the cops on the trail of Mater Lachrymarum, reborn thanks to Sarah Mandy's (Asia) over-zealous archeological efforts. The cinematographer is Frederic Fasano (DO YOU LIKE HITCHCOCK?, SCARLET DIVA) and the special effects (digital, and visual) are being done by the MASTERS OF HORROR crew of Lee Wilson, Sebastian Bergeron and Lisa K. Sepp. Myriad (JEEPERS CREEPERS) are still involved as American co- producers with that company's Kirk D'Amico listed alongside Dario, Claudio and Guilia Marletta on the production front. Lee Wilson is also the consulting producer. The budget seems to be enough, I know the script is great, so I think all the signs are good for Dario coming up with a worthy successor to SUSPIRIA and INFERNO. Early days yet but it is also my intention to get Dario and Asia to agree in principle to appearing at FrightFest 2007 for the UK premiere. Many factors still have to be considered of course - the international release date, who the UK distributor will be - but this is the plan.
Wish me luck."

Giallo
(pronounced 'djallo, plural gialli) is an italian 20th century genre of literature and film, which in italian indicates crime fiction and mystery. In the English language, however, it is used in a broader meaning that is closer to the french fantastique genre, including elements of horror fiction and eroticism.

The word giallo is Italian for "yellow" and stems from the origin of the genre as a series of cheap paperback novels with trademark yellow covers.
