| Welcome to the largest site on the internet dedicated to Dario Argento - one of the most stylish and visually imaginative director's alive today. This is not intended to be a sycophantic 'shrine' to him but a place for information and enlightenment and hopefully you will leave knowing more than when you came. There are all sorts of cool things within these pages - reviews, filmographies, biographies, interviews, slideshows, video/audio downloads and a forum. For an attempt at explaining why I like his films, click here |

dario in the woods
|
Alan Jones writes:
"Three witches. a girl's school deep in a foreboding forest, whispering trees, an Alida Valli look-alike teacher and a gifted student who must find out what's going on between classes. No it's not the MOTHER OF TEARS opening, or a SUSPIRIA redux. It's Lucky McKee's latest trip to the well of Argento influence. In his debut MAY, McKee paid homage to Dario in both plot and dialogue. In the long-shelved THE WOODS he has literally crafted a SUSPIRIA for the latest tween generation. It's a film that will be of most interest to Argento fans. It isn't as good as MAY - the plot gets more unfocused as it wends its way to a slam-bang finale after a slow build up. But it proves McKee has talent even if he has misjudged the core audience for it. Well acted - Patricia Clarkson is smouldering evil personified, restrained for a change Bruce Campbel, terrific lead Agnes Brucknerl - and shunted around for three years since producer United Artists got sold off, THE WOODS is old school horror in both senses and well worth a look for SUSPIRIA completists." |
