La Horde 6/10
French zombie movie - nicely done climax, hit and miss along the way.

Bloody Mallory 6.5/10
FUCK EVIL...Very silly French movie with colorful, anime-like visuals and music (Kawai) and wacky characters. Olivia Bonamy looks great as Mallory.

Mystery Science Theatre 3000 - JACK FROST -- batshit crazy and very funny. A russian fairy-tale with probably the best production values of any flick I've ever seen MST3k rip. Highly enjoyable, even for a latter-period Mike episode.

BROADWAY DANNY ROSE -- a favourite Woody Allen flick, one I've not seen for quite a while. Holds up great, amazing composition and use of black-and-white.

PIRAHNA 3D -- went back for seconds with a friend who hadn't seen it. About equally enjoyable the 2nd time around, but don't think I ever really need to see it again...

5150 Elm's Way

This French psycho thriller is very bizarre and disturbing. When a college student has a biking accident, he goes to this house for some help. Bad choice, because the house is controlled by an extremely bizarre serial killer, and now the biker is kept in a locked room without any idea what's going on, and seeing a dead body carried out of it. I should say, the viewers have no idea what is going on, and why the mad killer does what he does, except he is a chess player that has never been beaten. The biker is tortured beaten but for some reason, not killed, just kept in a room. It all comes down to about the most bizarre chess game ever played in movie history. Pretty good movie, strange of course, but pretty entertaining.

Empire of Passion

This ghost story from Japanese director Nagisa Ôshima is pretty good, but much different from the Asian ghost stories we've seen in the past few years. Made in 1978, it's all about some lovers that see the need to kill the woman's husband, and drop his body in a deep well. When the ghostly deceased husband reappears as a ghost to his Wife and others, the couple begin to worry that the town may find out, and their perfect plan will be discovered. That's beside the point, that the husband has returned as a ghost... or has he??? Pretty sexy movie, as this director is known, and will probably be of interest to fans of Asian horror.

Nero Veneziano 8/10
this is indeed very good....moody 70s Italian thriller with strong Roeg/Polanski influences.

Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night II 8.5/10
this is good stuff too, superior to the original and highly amusing (in a good way, not Prom Night remake-style)

I need to watch Prom Night 2, bought the dvd for $3 last summer still haven't gotten around to it. I've always been a fan of the first.

Incredible Hulk ****1/2

The more I watch this one the more I dig it, good f/x and cool action. I still like Ang Lee's better just because it's more stylish and is one of the most comic book looking films ever. The split screen and paneling shots are awesome.

The Ghost Writer

Roman Polanski's newest movie suffers from one flaw at least, it doesn't look or feel like a Polanski movie. That definitely doesn't make it a bad movie, because this murder mystery does a good job of building up tension and suspense ala Hitchock, with an explosive finale. Ewan McGregor is great as the ghost writer employed to write the memoirs of a former British Prime Minister, who has come under the gun for alleged war crimes. The more the ghost looks the more things he uncovers about the subject of his manuscript, some proving to be quite dangerous. Polanski takes his time telling this story, but I found it to be quite riveting in parts, and very slow in other segments, but all in all, a well rounded thriller with a shocking ending.

Murder Rock 7/10
"Slashdance" alternative title works well for this one, cheesy thriller with lots of hilarious dialogue (he's not a psycho, he's an ASSHOLE) and some Flashdance thrown in for good measure. Hardly top shelf Fulci but worthwhile for fans, and you'll never get the Keith Emerson music out of your head Oh and the detective in this movie is a LEGEND.

Knife of Ice 7/10
decent Lenzi giallo.

Never seen this but it has always sounded like cheesy fun...need to pick it up someday.

this has quite a reputation....good? not so much. entertaining? you bet....not sure how it'd hold up to a repeat viewing, but for a one-off giggle, it's quite alright.

Yay!.....i knew Troll was a safe 80´s bet with you, but i´m also glad that you enjoyed PN II.....i get a kick out of unassumingly discovering little gems within horror franchises that one might deem to have crashed and burned a la Howling V, Amityville II and others.
